Dizzy Dean state tournament heading to Bonifay
BONIFAY - There will be 12 teams in two categories vying for state titles beginning Saturday as the Dizzy Dean tournament comes to Bonifay.
The 15-16-year-old and 19-and-under tournaments will be held at Holmes County High School, and HCHS Head Coach Ron Dixon announced the brackets Sunday afternoon.
"These will be excellent tournaments," Dixon said. Both are double elimination and the winners will represent Florida in the Dizzy Dean World Series. For information about the World Series brackets and locations, go to www.dizzydeanbbinc.org
For the 19 and under bracket, Wakulla meets Tallahassee Tom Brown at 9 a.m. Saturday, and Lynn Haven meets the Lynn Haven Black Sox at 11:30 a.m. Winner and loser brackets will also meet Saturday, with finals set for Sunday, with a game Monday of necessary.
There are nine teams in the 15-16-year-old bracket. St. Petersburg meets Tallahassee Tom Brown Beagle at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by Tallahassee Messer against the Pensacola Angels at 11:30 a.m. The winner of this game meets Bonifay at 7 p.m.
Baker and Bozeman tangle at 2 p.m. and Tallahassee Tom Brown Williams faces Rutherford at 4:30 p.m. to complete the first round.
Winners and losers brackets play on Sunday, elimination continues Monday and Tuesday, and the finals are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, with an additional game if necessary at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
