Sexual battery charges filed
On June 12 Chipley Police initiated an investigation in reference to a sexual battery on a minor., according to a CPD news release.
"The investigation led by Lieutenant Dennis Speight, alleged that a minor female had been molested by her mother’s boyfriend at a Glenwood Ave. address," Chief Kevion Crews said.
"After further investigation we were able to obtain warrants for both the victim’s mother and her boyfriend. Both subjects along with the mother’s other three year old daughter fled Chipley before warrants could be issued back to the Miami area where we believe the two suspects originally came from. We immediately sent out a state wide broadcast to all law-enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for both suspects.
"We contacted the United States Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force and they immediately began to assist us in capturing the two suspects. After countless hours of surveillance on a couple of homes in the Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale area, the mother along with the three year old was stopped around midnight on July 8 by a Miami Dade police officer.
"The mother was taken into custody and the child was turned over to DCF in Miami. We are still seeking the whereabouts of the mother’s boyfriend."
